Hi, I'm
Maggie Neal Doherty
Writer
Literary Critic
Opinion Columnist
I've long loved stories. Reading them, writing them.
I’m a freelance writer, opinion columnist, and book critic. I live in northwest Montana and my work has appeared in The Guardian, Washington Post, High Country News, LA Times, Montana Quarterly, and more.
When my nose isn’t stuck in a book I’m a river rat. Come winter, I’m the bookish ski bum.
The 2023 Article That Unexpectedly Went Viral
“So you decided to stop drinking? I did — and these are my year’s lessons.”
The Guardian, Jan 2023
I don’t consider myself even remotely trendy, but my recovery journey alongside the sober-curious trend is simultaneously exciting (Margo Price and I are both rebels? Hell yes!) and worrisome. I do find it comforting to see there’s finally a deliberate, focused conversation on alcohol, a recalibration of its influence on our lives and health.
